Paths Tied was themed around the connection of the female with nature. My main inspirations were the Pre-Raphaelites, whose work often involved both female models and depictions of nature, as well as Julia Margaret Cameron’s dreamy, soft-focus photography.
These photographs were taken on an SLR film camera. I wanted to experiment with film, as I hadn’t used it before. I embraced the ‘mistakes’ and imperfections I made, and these became an important part of the images themselves. Orange light borders some of the photographs, while in others there are scratch marks in parts of the image. In my personal opinion, these strengthen the photographs and I really wanted to play on the idea of the raw, natural image.
